Court jails man three days for suicide attempt

MIRI: A man who failed in his attempt to commit suicide was sentenced to three days’ jail by the magistrates’ court yesterday.

The court ordered the sentenced to run from the date of his arrest.

Stephen Laing, 38, from Lorong 6, Permyjaya here was charged under Section 309 of the Penal Code which carries jail sentence up to one year or fine or both if found guilty.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused tried to commit suicide by attempting to jump from the fourteenth floor of a building which was still under construction.

He was said to have committed the offence at 10.30am last Jan 23 at the building along Miri-Pujut road.

The prosecution was headed by Chief Inspector Mary Ong in front of magistrate Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani.
