Lawn bowlers ready for Sukma challenges

KUCHING: The Sarawak lawn bowls squad will play in the national circuit as part of their build-up to Sukma XIVat Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, from May 28 to June 11.

“We have already formed a strong squad for the Games, starting at end of May,” Sarawak Lawn Bowls Association (Salba) president Awang Mahyan Awang.

According to him, the players’ first task will be to play in the national circuit in Labuan, then Sabah and Kuala Lumpur. He said the competition in Labuan from Feb 5-10 should be a good test to gauge the performance of the bowlers.

“We will be sending 17 players to the Labuan on Feb 4,” he added.

Awang Mahyan believed under experienced coach Muhd Akbar Busman and his assistant, Nuru Asma Sani, a former Sukma gold medallist, the squad will give their opponents a good run for their money. The team manager is Poniman Bejok, who is also Salba deputy president.
