Newspaper printer killed in accident

LAHAD DATU: A 21-year-old newspaper printing staff was killed after his Honda EX5 motorcycle he was riding crashed into a four-wheel drive vehicle at Km 4 Lahad Datu-Sandakan Road here on Tuesday.

District police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Bin Mat yesterday said the victim, Suwardi Bin Sudirman, was heading to Lahad Datu town when the accident occurred about 4.35pm.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim could not avoid the four-wheel drive vehicle which was turning into a junction.

“We are made to understand that the victim was heading to Dam Road to pick up his sister from work.

“The victim died at the Lahad Datu Hospital from severe injuries,” said Shamsudin, adding the body had been claimed by his family.

The case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added.

Meanwhile in Kampung Kenangan Segama, a 40-year-old man suffered a broken leg after his motorcycle crashed into an Isuzu pick-up at Km 5 on the same night.

It was learnt that the victim was heading to Kampung Kenangan when the accident occurred around 7.45pm.

According to a witness, the Isuzu pick-up was trying to overtake a car before the victim crashed into the pick-up coming from the opposite direction.

The Isuzu driver escaped unhurt and a villager sent the victim to the district hospital.
