PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that voters in Tenang will make a wise choice in the by-election tomorrow.

The Prime Minister said yesterday the voters knew how to assess who would be suitable as their representative in the Johor state assembly.

“They have seen both candidates, and I am confident they will make a wise choice,” he told reporters at his office here.

The by-election is a straight fight between former assistant district officer Mohd Azahar Ibrahim of Barisan Nasional and former teacher Normala Sudirman, the PAS women head of Labis. Both are 38.

It follows the death of BN assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Taha last Dec 17 of diabetes-related blood poisoning.

Najib hoped that the voters would think of their future and choose the candidate who could serve them best.

“This is a by-election, not a general election. So, what is most important is for them to choose a representative who can do something of advantage to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim urged Felda settlers not to forget what the government had done in bringing them development and a better life.

Leaders from the late Datuk Onn Jaafar until Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had contributed much to the prosperity enjoyed.

“The benefits to families and communities must be evaluated especially during this by-election. ” he said at a kampung feast with settlers of Felda Chemplak Barat Thursday night.

Rais said it was easy for the opposition to ask Felda settlers to forget government deeds as they only wanted support from the people.

He reminded Felda’s young generation not to forget that the properity enjoyed by them was due to the government struggle. — Bernama
