SIBU: The local populace can stand tall and take pride when improvement works to Stadium Tun Zaidi here are completed, and that its surface will incorporate the latest state-of-art technology.

“The surface will have the latest technology in the state if not in Malaysia,” said Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said yesterday.
It is using the same technology as that used in the just concluded Commonwealth Games in India.
He pointed out that members of the public had requested for the improvement works as certain parts of the track had sunk, adding, “We had to do an overall upgrading.”
Costing RM3,888,888 the overall improvement works are scheduled to be completed by end of February.
Bituminous works are now in progress and synthetic rubber materials are expected to be applied starting from first week of February.
Requests by Sibu Athletic Association had also been incorporated into the improvement works.
Australian expert Wayna Mcmillion, who was here to oversee the bituminous works, shared his experience with reporters.
On another matter, Wong, who is also Minister of Environment and Public Health disclosed that Chinese community paramount chief Temenggong Vincent Lau had been entrusted to do the coordinating job.
“He (Lau) will coordinate with United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu, committee of board of management for independent secondary schools, Chinese primary schools, mission schools and Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which represent Chinese community in Sibu.
“He will collect issues and problems outlined by various bodies and present them to the Chief Minister before he comes for the dialogue,” said the minister.
