Youth among six fined for illegal gambling

KUCHING: A 33-year-old Indonesian man and 18-year-old youth were among six persons fined RM150, in default seven days’ jail in the magistrates’ court for gambling.

They pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Syafiza Abdul Razak Tready who convicted them under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

They committed the offence at a place in front of a house at Taman Riverview about 1.15am on Jan 16 this year.

According to the brief facts of the case on Jan 16 about 1.15am a police party led by ASP Abdul Rahim Abdullah raided a place in front of the house and arrested six persons suspected to be involved in illegal gambling in a public place.

The suspects, aged 18 to 57, were arrested and initial investigation revealed they were present and participated in the game of Black Jack.

One set of playing card and table money amounting to RM79 were seized during the raid. They settled the fine.

Inspector Mathafiz Matlawi prosecuted.
