Unemployed man fined RM1,000 for theft

KUCHING: A 27-year-old unemployed man, who pleaded guilty to theft in a magistrates’ court, was yesterday fined RM1,000 in default one month’s imprisonment.

Mohd Zulfika Zaidan from Kampung Tabuan Hulu appeared before Magistrate Shafiza Abdul Razak Tready, who convicted him under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

Zulfika pleaded guilty to stealing two diaries, a bag, tools, a set of spanners, a multimeter, an office key and a set of keys belonging to Libui Ahet.

He committed the offence at the victim’s house at Kampung Tabuan Lot about 10.25pm on Jan 14 this year.

The items, estimated at RM230, were stolen from a motorbike basket.

Zulfika was not represented, while Inspector Mathafiz Matlawi prosecuted.

In the same courtroom, a 17-year-old was ordered to be sent to Sekolah Tunas Bakti for three years for motorcycle theft. Upon completion of his rehabilitation at the school, the youth will be kept under close observation by an appointed officer for a year.

The youth was charged with stealing a Modenas Kriss motorcycle at the Bandar Baru Semariang mosque about 8.15pm on Dec 20 last year.

He pleaded guilty to the charge framed against him under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

The court also ordered the youth’s parents to visit him at least twice a month at the centre.
