KUCHING: Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) would like to see greater flexibility in existing procedures and requirements to allow more Dayak businessmen to participate in all categories of tender for government contracts.

In a press statement made in response to the recently launched Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju), DCCI deputy president Dato Sri Celestine Ujang Jilan said he was confident that Dayak participation in business would increase substantially if procedures and requirements were friendlier.

Ujang said with Teraju opening up a whole new business horizon for Bumiputera, Dayaks, being relatively newer to the business world, would see themselves more involved if procedures were less demanding.

“DCCI is willing and ready to co-operate and engage with Teraju to ensure the objectives of Teraju are met, especially on the participation of Dayaks in business and economy of the country,” Ujang said.

According to him, DCCI hopes that with the establishment of Teraju, which was set up by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the economic participation and livelihood of the state’s Dayaks as a whole, will be greatly improved and enhanced, as the core objective of Teraju is to lead, coordinate and drive Bumiputera economic participation through new and existing initiatives.

“DCCI greatly appreciates YAB Datuk Seri’s seriousness in the implementation of Teraju’s objectives when he said that Teraju will monitor programmes under way to ensure their effectiveness and that Teraju is required to engage with stakeholders including chambers of commerce with regard to the programme implementation,” Ujang added.

Meanwhile, in a separate press release, also issued yesterday, DCCI is inviting participation to its upcoming ‘Designing an Effective Business Plan’ course to be held on Feb 24 and 25.

DCCI executive secretary Terence Temenggong Jayang said the course will be conducted by Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) especially for DCCI members and office staff at the centre’s Tabuan Jaya premises.

Participants will be provided with the knowledge on how to prepare standard and effective business plan as well as given the understanding on the importance of business plan as a communication and management tool.

Participation is limited to 15 persons and is available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Interested members and staff must contact DCCI operations officer George Gawing Abit before Feb 17 to fill and submit the ‘Registration and Application for SME Corp Training Grant Forms (Lampiran 2)’.

The form must be completed by the business owner who should get ready all necessary relevant documents — duly certified true copies of the originals only — as part of the requirements in the form.
