I’ll take on the ‘giant’ if PR says so — Dr Teo

MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri branch chairman Dr Michael Teo has indicated his readiness to stand in the coming state election here.

He said he was even ready for the possibility of being fielded against incumbent and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan in the Piasau state seat.

“Somebody will have to take up the challenge, even if facing the ‘giant’, and I will definitely try again,” said Dr Teo recently.

However, the seat Dr Teo will contest has not been determined yet, and he said he would leave it to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state leadership to decide.

In a sharp contrast to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders’ call for more new faces to attract the voters, Dr Teo talked of the need for opposition candidates to persist in their quest to be accepted by the people.

“This was how Sibu was won by DAP’s Wong Ho Leng who had tried and failed several times. But he prevailed in the end,” said Dr Teo, who is confident that the people would become more familiar with him, and be ready for change this time around.

“There are still many issues the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has not been brave to confront, and we will present the viable alternatives to the voters to make that change,” he said.

Meanwhile, PR will be organising a Chinese New Year evening dinner gathering at his house in Miri from 7pm to 11pm tonight.
