LAWAS: The Lawas Kitchen exhibition, which is organised as a precursor to the Limbang Division Sejiwa Senada programme, here serves as a good platform to showcase unique local cuisines to visitors.

Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this during his visit to the Sejiwa Senada exhibition booths yesterday.

He was referring to the wide variety of dishes available, from the local ‘Tahai’ (smoked fish) to ‘Dadah’, a tasty soup.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Planning and Resource Management Naroden Majais, Lawas Perkim branch chairperson Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong.

Tengah also commended PBB Bukit Sari Youth for organising the remote control speedboat race and their involvement in poco-poco, karaoke contest and lucky draw for Pesta Lawas.

“This event brings the rakyat and the party (PBB) together, further strengthening the prevailing spirit of co-operation and rapport,” he said.

Meanwhile, Naroden thanked the Entreprenuership Development Unit, FAMA and Agriculture Department for coordinating of the Lawas Kitchen for the very first time here.

Naroden, who is also in charge of Bumiputera Entreprenuership Development, said he believed the local cuisines would be an attraction to visitors from Sabah, Brunei and Kuching who are in Lawas for the Sejiwa Senada programme.

He said with right promotion these products could fare well, and this would indirectly raise the quality of life of the rural community in the long run.

Meanwhile, Pesta Lawas kicked off yesterday with a series of preliminary events which drew packed crowd to the Lawas Esplanade.

It will be officiated by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today after the opening ceremony of Sejiwa Senada.

Thousands of people are expected to turn up for the adrenaline pumping boat race.
