KUCHING: A septuagenarian had a close brush with death after his car suddenly burst into flames moments after he had pulled over to the side of the road.
CAR ON FIRE: Motorists staying clear of the burning car when the fire was at its peak.
The incident happened around 9.45pm when the elderly driver said he ‘sensed’ something was wrong with his Proton Tiara while driving along Jalan Simpang Tiga and immediately stopped in front of a bus stop.
Moments after getting out of his vehicle, he saw smoke billowing from beneath the hood and instinctively took several steps back before the engine burst into flames.
The entire car was soon engulfed by flames and was reduced to a burnt wreck by the time firemen arrived to put out the fire.
According to the septuagenarian, he had no idea what caused the incident, but revealed that he had only just collected the vehicle from an auto repair shop after experiencing problems with the car’s carburettor a few days ago.
The actual cause of the fire is under investigation.
