BINTULU: Kampung Assyakirin Phase I and II were hit by flash floods last Tuesday night.

Heavy rain that started around 2pm caused some houses to be in three feet of water.

Village chief Abu Bakar said the water began to rise rapidly around 7pm.

“There was no time to move the furniture to higher places,” he said at the scene.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice youth chief Pandi Suhaili said the flood affected more than 20 houses for the first time.

The flash floods were believed due to blocked drains. The water began to slowly recede at 10pm.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who is also Jepak assemblyman, was also present at the scene.
