KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said he will keep his promise of allocating 2,000 hectares of land to the United Association of Chinese School Boards of Management.

He said he had instructed the Land and Survey Department to look for that piece of land.

He, however, admitted that it was not easy to find such a huge chunk of land.

“Until today it is not that easy to look for (land) that size because if you travel by plane you can see that from Kuching to Miri most land is covered by oil palm plantations.

“To get that piece of land, is not easy because the oil palm plantation is bigger than the jungle.

“Probably I’ll find it within six months or a year, but I never break a promise in my life and you get what I promised,” he said at the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Association’s (FKSDCA) 32nd anniversary cum Chinese New Year dinner at Crown Square here on Tuesday.

Present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Tan Joo Phoi, FKSDCA president Dr Chou Chii Ming and SUPP secretary general Datuk Sim Kheng Hui.

On another matter, Taib reiterated that he was a Chief Minister of all races and since holding the post he had been looking after the interests of all races.

“Even the opposition cannot deny the achievements and unity of the people,” he said.

Taib also revealed that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Education Minister, has a few surprises in store pertaining to Chinese education in the state.

Muhyiddin, he added, would make the announcement during his next visit to the state.
