KOTA BAHARU: Kelantan police yesterday confirmed that suspected smuggler, Said Mat Hassan, died of a heart attack and not because he
was brutalised by members of Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP).

Kelantan police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the post-mortem carried out by the Forensic Unit of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital yesterday revealed that there was no foul play and Said, 56, died after having a heart attack in his car.

“There is no foul play in this case. It was confirmed that the victim died of a heart attack,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Yesterday, Said, who was looking pale and frothing at the mouth, was found by four UPP members in a Kancil car by the roadside in Kampung Wakaf Tin in Tumpat.

He was taken to Tumpat Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A misunderstanding over the death led to a commotion when several individuals, including Said’s nephew, Ahmad Nizamuddin Mohamad, 19, came to the hospital and attacked the UPP members.

In defence, one of the UPP members fired a warning shot which hit Ahmad Nizamuddin.

Abdul Rahim said the police were still investigating the case and in the midst of recording statements from the individuals involved, but no arrest was made so far.— Bernama
