KUCHING: UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMW Toyota Motor) continues to aim for a  bigger market share when it became the number two in terms of brand sales in Sarawak with more than 9,400 units sold last year compared with 8,318 units in the previous year.

WITH THE MEDIA: Ismet (centre) together with the senior management of UMW Toyota Motor pose for a photo session together with the media at the reception yesterday.

The company’s new vehicle sales in this region represented 24 per cent of market share against Sarawak’s total industry volume (TIV) and contributed 10 per cent to the total Toyota vehicles sold in Malaysia.

“Toyota Hilux remains the Toyota choice or customers in this region, with 3,382 units of the Hilux Double Cabin sold in 2010 compared with 3,012 units in 2009. These sales figures also translate into a market share of 59 per cent in the 4X4 Light Duty Pick Up segment in Sarawak,” said UMW Toyota Motor’s newly appointed president, Ismet Suki at a media reception event held in Kuching yesterday.

Complimenting the strong sales figures was an equally impressive after sales service figure last year. The company serviced almost 95,000 units of customers’ vehicles in Sarawak, driven by the increased number of Toyota vehicles in the region. This also proved that the company remains committed to customer satisfaction even after the point of sale.

During the function, UMW Toyota Motor also announced that it had posted a 12 per cent in its total new vehicle sales last year by selling 92,000 units, compared with the 82,000 units sold in the previous year.

“We have maintained our 2010 market share of above 15 per cent against the TIV and sustained the number one position in the non-national segment for 21 consecutive years,” commented Ismet.

While 2010 was a record breaking year for UMW Toyota Motor, the organisation was already expecting to sell more than 90,000 units of new vehicles in an attempt to maintain its market share of 15 per cent.

A host of new model launches through this year would help UMW Toyota Motor to maintain its market share. The company had sold more than 6,600 units of new Toyota and Lexus vehicles in January this year.

“As of January this year, we have delivered almost 400 units of Hilux whichis a 17 per cent increase compared with 342 units sold for the same period last year in Sarawak. We would like to thank our customers in Sarawak for continuing to place their trust in our products,” added Ismet.

In order to continue the pursuit of customer satisfaction, UMW Toyota Motor is enhancing its sales and after sales facilities including its dealers. Upgrading projects are currently underway at its outlets in Kuching, Miri and Bintulu.

Ismet announced that UMW Toyota Motor will be launching the new Lexus CT 200h hatchback and he hoped that the new model would add more excitement to the hybrid market in the country.

The launching of Lexus CT 200h marks the fourth hybrid models which UMW Toyota Motor offers after Toyota Prius, Lexus LS 600h L and RX 450h.
