LUNDU: Tanjung Datu, under the Santubong parliamentary constituency, will remain a stronghold of the Barisan Nasional (BN), said its MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat believed that Tanjung Datu would continue to be an asset of BN, as promised to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.

Wan Junaidi said he had met with Najib to express his confidence of having the seat retained in the coming state polls.

“I am confident that the BN machinery will be able to defend Tanjung Datu, for it is a stronghold under the Santubong constituency.

“It is also hoped that the Year of the Rabbit will bring more success for the BN government,” he said during a Lunar New Year dinner at Dewan Chung Hua here last Saturday.

Wan Junaidi thus called on the people to fully support BN to ensure continued development and prosperity.

Besides Tanjung Datu, he expressed his confidence that Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina would be able to retain his seat in the coming state election.

“Sarawakians must play their role to avoid the political crisis taking place in some Middle East nations,” he advised.

They have to place unity above all, and work closely to make sure political stability in the state were not jeopardised, he added.

At the dinner, he pledged a RM15,000 government allocation for ‘Pesta Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Muslim Tanjung Dato and Santubong’.
