MIRI: SMK Lutong held a motivation camp for its Students Leadership Board at the sport field recently.

LEADERSHIP IN THE MAKING: Students attending the motivation camp.

Principal Marcus Hugo Matu said this was one effective approach in relaying meaningful input to student leaders so they could balance their achievements between academic and co-curriculum.

He hoped through the camp, students would be able to discover their potential and build confidence to be capable leaders to assist in running of the school’s administration.

The event, among others was to create qualified individuals who are disciplined, independent, intellectual and responsible.

“It is also to foster closer rapport and enhance unity, peace and harmony,” Hugo said.

A total of 178 students participated in the three-day camp, comprising prefects for co-curriculum, resource, counselling and leadership, chief prefects and class assistants.

According to Hugo, the activities organised were of ‘functional’ concept which included talks, workshop and group training.

Participants also learnt about discipline, ethics and teamwork.

“This is attributed to the strong cooperation and teamwork among everybody,” he praised.

SMK Lutong is a cluster school among the 120 in the country and the only one in the northern region to receive the ‘Excellent School Award’ from the Education Ministry.

It has been doing well in academics, achieving excellent pass rate both in ordinary and important examinations.

Sportwise, the school has produced many good athletes and top players in various games at international levels over the years.
