SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart gave an outstanding performance in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM), producing five of the seven straight-A students (4As) in Sibu Division.
The five who are all girls are Hii Ming, Lau Ung King, Jocelyn Hii Wei Hung, Sim Jung Nie and Yong Ching Ting.
The other two are Ning Chan Hui from SMK Chung Hua and Ling Kuok Hung from SMK Bandar Sibu.
All top five scorers from SMK Sacred Heart are Arts students, each scoring A in Bahasa Malaysia, Penjajian Am, Geography and Economy.
The school’s senior assistant (afternoon session) Wong Sing Chuong thanked the teachers, students, members of Sacred Heart Old Students Association (Shosa) and the parent-teacher association (PTA) for their support.
“Without the support from these groups of caring people, it would not be possible for us to attain such great results,” he acknowledged.
Last year, the school produced two students with 4As against an all-time high of 17 students with 4As in 2006.
“That was a feat hard to beat but we are happy with the results and, hopefully, will be able to keep up with the momentum for a long time to come,” he said.
Shosa president Robert Lau Hui Yew who dropped by the school to view the result praised outgoing principal Vincent Liong for steering the school towards glory.
“For about five years, Vincent brought about tremendous changes to the school in terms of co-curricular activities and academic excellence. We are grateful for the wonderful job he has done to put the school back on track.”
As a former student, Lau was proud of the excellent results.
“In fact, we are the only smart school among mission-aided schools in Sibu. We are good not only in academics and all-rounder,” he said.
Eric Wong, the school PTA assistant chairman, said the excellent results was achieved through cooperation with Shosa, the school board of management, teachers, principal and students.
“I believe the school is regaining its past glory,” he commented.
Other top achievers from SMK Sacred Heart are Wong Jing Ting, Lau Hui Tieng and Gan Ming Sing (all with 3As,1A-), Priscilla Law (2As,2A-), Fam Jye Ping and Wong Lim Le (both with 3As, 1B-) and those with at least two straight As: Yong Ya Yun, Geraldine Kong, Kelly Ting, Wong Siew Hui, Chua Xiao Nee, Tang Kee Ngiik and Ning Lu Jun.
