KUCHING: Be focused and pragmatic in to achieve success, because dreams will stay out of reach if not backed with any action.

This was the advice given by Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun Monday night to University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) recipients of the Vice Chancellor and Dean’s Awards.

With several anecdotes to illustrate, Entulu said that being focused on a goal required proper planning, and not rely on straight A’s alone.

Entulu, himself a UiTM graduate, also announced an allocation of RM30,000 for the university.

“I will let the university advice me on where exactly to channel it,” he added.

A total of 1,068 graduates qualified for the Dean’s Award, with another 29 receiving the Vice Chancellor’s Award.

UiTM campus director Prof Dr Jamil Hamali said that the excellence achieved by these students was a result of an entire university striving to improve the position of Bumiputera in the eyes of the world.

“We have and will continue to do more action plans and programmes to improve the academic standing of weak and average students, and help excellent students be even better,” he said.

He added that the award ceremony will leave a positive impact and inspiration on the other students to develop a competitive spirit when it comes to getting better results in their exams.

Also present at the ceremony were Academic Affairs deputy director Associate Prof Dr Rosita Suhaimi, Research and Networking Industry deputy director Associate Prof Dr Rashidah Mahdi and Student and Alumni deputy director Associate Prof Wan Akil Tuanku Abdullah.

Present to receive the Vice Chancellor’s Award were Analella Itai, Carolline Sherley Eit, Jandi Perra Jembu, Jeffry Galati Emang, Juhaisha Abdul Jalil, Mohammad Hafizzul Sulaiman, Mohammad Naim Othman, Nur Hasziana Hassim, Nuruljannah Raimi Mohd Firdaus and Tina Japi.
