TEMERLOH: Party supporters have been reminded not to bring musical instruments and loudspeakers during nomination for Kerdau and Merlimau by-election on Saturday.

Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said they should avoid such items as it is an offence under the Election Offences Act 1954.

“Police will not tolerate such act and will seize the equipments. However, supporters can bring party flags and posters” he told a press conference yesterday.

Despite reminders, supporters continue to bring them as witnessed at Tenang by-election in Johor last month and Bukit Selambau by-election in Kedah in 2009.

Wan Ahmad said EC is targeting over 80 per cent turnout by 8,999 voters at Kerdau by-election on March 6.

It is based on 80.3 per cent voter turnout during 2008 general election.

The by-election result is expected to be announced at 8pm.

He said up to 2pm, only Barisan Nasional (BN) had bought nomination forms and paid deposits.

EC has fixed Dewan Tun Razak, Temerloh Municipal Council as nomination centre and vote tabulation centre. —Bernama
