Police headquarters a must for Putatan – Yahya

PUTATAN: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Yahya Hussin said Putatan needed a police headquarters to cater for better policing services in view of the increasing population and rapid pace of development in the district.

“Presently, Putatan only has a police station in a rented premises at a housing estate, and with limited number of officers and personnel, it still has to rely on the Penampang police headquarters to provide policing services,” he said yesterday.

Yahya, who is also the Petagas assemblyman, said since Putatan has been elevated to a full district, the government and Royal Malaysian Police Force should find a way to set up a district police headquarters here.

Speaking during the Putatan-level Maulidul Rasul 1432H celebrations at the Nurul Ihsan Mosque in Lok Kawi yesterday, Yahya said he had written to the Inspector-General of Police on the need and request for setting up a police headquarters in the district.

“Putatan is undergoing tremendous development with more new housing estates and commercial centres coming up that has enabled it to be declared a full district by the State Government, and has its own district mosque.

“Before, the district relied on the Penampang District Office but with its own District Office and District Council now, the district has received so many development projects and carried out its own administration and development planning,” said Yahya, who is also the Agriculture and Food Industry Minister.

During the event, Yahya presented the “Tokoh Maulidul Rasul” award to Kassim Muyang and a special award to Affendy Suraip, a student at UiTM Sabah Campus, from Kampung Lok Kawi for creating the new Nurul Ihsan’s logo.
