Stakan–Muara Tuang bridge, road ready by April

KUCHING: SUPP Publicity and Information secretary Datuk Alfred Yap said the construction work of a bridge and road connecting Stakan to Muara Tuang would be completed by April.

TO BE COMPLETED SOON: The construction site of the facility upgrading project.

Inspecting the site with Seventh Mile Sam Hap Hin Charity Association (SSHHCA) members in Stakan, Yap said it took only about 2km to reach Muara Tuang road after crossing the bridge following its completion.

“This will make it easy for the road users,” said Yap adding the 18-month project costs RM9 million in federal funds.

At the same time Yap promised that he would try to sort out the landslide problem at the riverbanks along the project.

Meanwhile, a steel bridge had also been completed recently in Stakan to make it easier for the Chinese community to reach an ancestral cemetery across the river.

SSHHCA’s chairman Choo Boon Miaw said the previous wooden bridge was broken because of the heavy rain and landslide.

He was grateful to businessman Wee Joo Teck for his personal contribution of RM9,800 to build the bridge.
