SMK Selirik Form 6 students marked the momentous occasion by treating the English teacher to a simple party out of their own pockets.

“After today (yesterday), I can sleep well because I’ve served my full term in the teaching profession upon reaching the 58 years mandatory retirement date,” said Edward.

Teaching, he said, is a profession that requires a lot of hard work and commitment.

“Lots of preparation and homework to do in order to be effective as learning is two-way traffic. You don’t just teach but more importantly students should pick up the lessons in the class.”

He called on students to dream big and aim high by studying very hard while at school.

Upon completing Form 5 in 1972, Edward attended two years of teaching-training at the Teacher’s Institute Sarawak in Sibu.

Other schools that Edward has served at were SMK Sungai Paok, SMK Kapit, SK Nanga Telawan – where he was headmaster, SK Nanga Stapang, SK Nanga Ibau and SK Nanga Merit.

He is now planning for his new life ahead where he will be managing an insurance agency.
