More houses under Housing Assistance Programme to be built this year

KUCHING: Some 3,644 units of houses under the Housing Assistance Programme (Program Bantuan Rumah – PBR) will be built in the state this
year.

Disclosing this, Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the programme would will cost the government about RM103 million.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the PBR at Kampung Laruh here yesterday, Shafie said there would be 1,883 new units, while the remaining 1,761 units needed to be
repaired.

According to him, the RM103 million allocation to the state was bigger than the allocation to Peninsular Malaysia, with only RM70 million.

He added that this year also saw RM127 million given to the state to build 7,769 units of houses under the PRB.

“As of February this year, some 1,707 units of houses under the PBR have been built, while 6,062 units were repaired, which brings
the total to 7,769 units,” he said.

Lubok Antu and Kapit recorded the most units with 2,168 and 1,008 units respectively, he noted.

On the implementation of roads, water and electricity supply in the state, Shafie said the projects went on smoothly.

He disclosed that some 244.47 kilometres of roads construction have been completed, while 4,004 units of houses were supplied with clean water supply and 12,256 units have been connected with electricity supply.

“I am confident that more rural areas in the state will be provided with good roads, and with water and electricity supply,” he said.
