SIBU: A couple pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court on Wednesday afternoon for exploiting their Indonesian maid.

Diong Lee Hua and her husband, Lim Seng Ngiok, were charged under Section 13 of the Antihuman trafficking Act 2007, which carries a minimum jail term of three years and not exceeding 20 years.

The couple had allegedly exploited their 30-yearold maid at their house in Sg Merah between February and October 2010 from 5am until midnight.

Diong was also charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the same maid using a rattan and a mop.

The Section provides for an imprisonment term, which may be extended to 20 years, and a possible fine or whipping.

Lim was also charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of three years, or with a fine or whipping.

Counsel Jacob Wong represented them both.

The court set April 12 for hearing.
