Man gets three months’ jail for stealing toys

KUCHING: A 31-year-old self-employed man from RPR Batu Kawah was sent three months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to a theft charge.

Kamarul Sapawi admitted he had committed theft inside a shopping mall, The Hill, here by stealing two remote controlled walking Iron- Man toys from the Toys R Us shop.

The total worth of the toys were about RM503.80. Kamarul committed the offence at 7pm on Jan 9 this year. His jail term took effect from yesterday.

He and his accomplice, Mohd Zulfiqa Yusof, 19, from Jalan Parit Lama here were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

However the second accused, Mohd Zulfiqa, denied the allegation and claimed trial.

In another courtroom, a 21-year-old unemployed man was discharged and acquitted from a possessing stolen property charge in the magistrates’ court yesterday.

Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng released Izzaiddin Ossin from Kampung Semerah Padi from the charge after the complainant, who is his brother, withdrew his complaint against him.

He was charged for stealing a Honda EX5 motorbike belonging to his brother at 4.10pm on Dec 27 last year. Initially, he claimed trial against the charge framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

In the same courtroom, a 22-year-old-man from Bako accused for causing injuries to a girl was issued a warrant of arrest after he failed to turn up in court yesterday.

The magistrate ordered the accused, Mohd Zikri Ahmad, to attend his trial on April 8 to proceed with his case.

He allegedly caused hurt to a 16-year-old girl using a knuckle-duster at a park in Jalan Matang at 7.30pm on Oct 13 last year.
