Najib: Trust BN as it delivers its promises

SERIAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday reminded the people to continue to have faith in Barisan Nasional (BN) which really delivers progress and prosperity to the country and the community.

He said unlike the opposition, which propagates politics of “trading promises”, BN really works to develop the country and delivers its promises to help the people.

“BN is not in a political game of trading promises and political rhetoric, but we deliver. So to you (people), do place your trust in BN, and we will not fail you,” Najib assured.

He said this at the launching of ‘Sejiwa Senada’ programme, Samarahan Zone, here yesterday.

Najib added that there was no point for the people to support the opposition, when the party was cracking and telling lies.

He singled out Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) which has seen many of its senior party leaders quitting the party.

Without revealing any name, Najib also said the party’s leader had created the “biggest political lie of the century” when he said the opposition would form the government on Sept 16, 2009.

“Why trust such political party when they are telling lies?” he asked.

The Prime Minister also rubbished the opposition for saying that the unrest happening in Middle East could happen in the country.

He said such scenario would not happen here because of the thriving democracy that was being practised.

“We have a functional democracy here, so you the opposition need not belittle the thinking of Malaysian people who can decide who they want to rule the country,” he said, adding that the election was a barometer for the people to tell whether the government was performing or not.

Najib also touched on the 2008 general election where five states fell to the opposition.

To him, the election result had put the country in a political crossroad, whereby the people were not against BN but wanted BN to meet their expectations and vision.

“In view of such political scenario, we in BN must feel the pulse of the people, only then can we get their support,” Najib pointed out.

Meanwhile, the event yesterday also saw the people of Serian receiving a golden handshake from Najib and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Najib announced a whopping RM252.35 million for water and electricity supply.

The amount was for water supply in Tebedu (RM105 million) and Serian area (RM116.5 million) that would benefit 2,910 and 4,416 households respectively.

Tender for both projects will be called end of this month.

Another RM13.39 million would be for electricity supply in Serian parliamentary constituency that would benefit 408 households, while RM12.5 million was for Teng Bekap clinic and RM120,000 to install air conditioners in Serian Community Hall.

Taib also announced an additional amount of RM90 million – RM30 million for the construction of Jalan Terbat-Mapu and RM60 million for Munggu Kopi.

Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, and both deputy chief ministers Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.
