LIMBANG: The government, with its own detailed planning, could only implement development by stages as they do not possess the ‘magic wand’ to fulfill all the needs of the rakyat instantly.

Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the thorough development planning does not only concern the needs but also the preparedness of the rakyat in accepting development and change.

He added that the government will develop an area without neglecting the needs of the people, which covered the economy and education aspects.

“We understand the request from government to build a university in Limbang. However, if we do build a university here but the people are yet ready for the big development, it will be a waste,” he said at the Leader With the Raykat function held at Rumah Bakat Siba, Jalan Kubong yesterday.

Also at the event were Limbang District officer Anyi Ngau and representative of National Safety Council, Sarawak director Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Salleh.

Dr Rahman reassured the people that the government has been deploying development fairly by stages to all communities in all areas, and development priority was dependant on the needs of the people and place.

“The priority is to build a new primary school and a secondary school here, and we do understand the need of a vocational and community college for the district,” he said.

“The government will put priority in education to ensure children’s bright future, and more appropriate development will come to uplift the standard of living of people,” he added.

Therefore, the people especially in the interiors were urged to continue giving their full support to Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“The people are now aware of their responsibility to choose their government through accessing the development in their constituency.

“The number of registered voters in Limbang has increased from 13,000 voters in the 9th state election in 2006 to more than 14,000 voters for the 10th state election this year,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, at the event, Dr Rahman announced the approved allocation by the government amounting RM85,000 to Rumah Bakat for concrete drains, roadway and village development and safety.

He also handed out the allocation to Rumah Senggat (RM85,000), Rumah Imau (RM47,000) and Rumah Unjah (RM20,000) for their respective infrastructure projects.
