PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday denied that he was the man in a sex video that emerged yesterday, and claimed that this was yet another conspiracy to malign him and his family.

The Opposition Leader claimed that this was the latest attempt engineered by his political enemies bent on impeding the progress his political career and PKR.

“We issue a warning to the political enemies of Pakatan Rakyat to immediately stop this dirty and porn politics. Do not drag the people and the country into the trap of your dirty politics,” he said at a news conference at the PKR headquarters, here.

Anwar was responding to an allegation by an unidentified group that it had a black-and-white video clip of a sexual act between an opposition leader and a woman said to be a prostitute at a hotel.

The group, led by a man who had introduced himself only as Datuk T, had said that it would hand over the video clip to the particular opposition leader and his wife in about a week.

Anwar claimed that on Feb 21 this year, when the video was allegedly recorded, he was with his family at home and had proof to show that he was tweeting and surfing his Facebook account then.

“At that time, I was tweeting; I will have to keep all this evidence because I fear that my account will be hacked. I am given to understand that the man in the video looks like me but has a bigger belly than I,” he said, and stood up to show his abdomen to reporters.

When told that the man in the video had left behind an Omega watch, Anwar said: “Your question should be that I have an Omega watch? Yes, I have it. Azizah keeps my watch.”

Datuk T’s group had claimed that a watch, said to be belong to the politician in the video, was taken by the woman during their sex act on Feb 21.

Asked whether he would lodge a police report, Anwar said he had yet to watch the video.

“I have had discussions with my lawyers on the matter. I don’t know the maker (of the video); I don’t know if it’s going to be distributed.

“Once we find the evidence and the person or persons surface(s) or appear(s), we have to do it (lodge a police report). Assuming that the government is fair and transparent because it’s me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah, who is PKR president, said the whole thing was politically motivated.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the emergence of the video would not jeopardise support for PKR. — Bernama
