KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen is calling on the state government to refund overpaid land premiums not only to house owners in Kenyalang Park but also other residential areas here.
The state DAP secretary said the authorities should refund the overpaid premiums before nomination day.
He was responding to news reports that 73 residents in Kenyalang Park here had received their notice of premium refund last Saturday.
Chong, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman, pointed out that all house owners who had overpaid land premiums were entitled to refund.
The 73 recipients of refund notices are the ‘first batch’. More are expected to come, according to reports.
SUPP helped these house owners to apply for the refund after Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud announced the reduction of land lease renewal fee to RM1,000 for terraced houses during the Sibu by-election last May.
Before the announcement, house owners paid RM2,600 to get the renewal documents.
It was learned that SUPP had submitted more than 600 applications for refunds to the Land and Survey Department last year.
