OPERATING NOW: The 1Malaysia Clinic situated at the former canteen of Rajang Park traffic garden.

SIBU: The newly opened 1Malaysia Clinic in Rajang Park is very much welcome by the people living in the housing area and its vicinity.

A woman in her 50s, who wanted to be known only as Madam Song, said the clinic would save her a lot of time and energy.

Met at the clinic yesterday, she said she used to go to Oya Road Polyclinic before 7am to wait for her turn to be seen by a doctor or a medical assistant.

She no longer has to go through such trouble now that the 1Malaysia Clinic, situated at the former canteen of the Rajang Park traffic garden, is within walking distance from her house.

“Normally, I would go to the clinic if I am down with minor cold or fever. I am sure 1Malaysia Clinic too has medicine for minor illnesses,” she said.

Song, meanwhile, requested at least a Chinese staff at the 1Malaysia Clinic to assist patients as a translator.

She said she had only a limited knowledge of other languages other than Chinese.

The new 1Malaysia Clinic which opens daily from 10am to 10pm is the third in Sibu, following the earlier two set up in Teku Bazaar and Sg Bidut.

However the new clinic does face some teething problems – the gate, for one, needs repair.

Some residents in Rajang Park have noted that facilities surrounding the clinic need improving.

They call on the authority to immediately look into the safety aspect of the clinic’s surrounding area.
