KOTA KINABALU: A single mother lost her home in a morning fire at Kampung Bangka-Bangka in Likas here yesterday.

NOTHING LEFT: Firefighters put out the fire that destroyed a double-storey wooden house in Kampung Bangka-Bangka, Likas.

TEARY: Haini could not hold back her tears as she watches her home being razed to the ground.

Haini Dulamit, 41, who had been staying in the house for 25 years with her two children, failed to salvage her belongings when the fire razed her double-storey wooden house in the 8am fire.

“I was resting on the first floor when I smelt smoke coming from the ground floor. When I went down to have a look, the fire was already burning part of my house. Without thinking, I immediately ran to the stairs to save myself,” she said when met yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sembulan station fire chief Ariffin Harris, when contacted, said the department received a distress call at 8.28am and a team of firefighters was dispatched to the scene within minutes.

“We managed to control the fire by 8.47am and the cause of the fire and total loss are still under investigation,” he said.
