PUTRAJAYA: The Health Promotion Board needs to be more aggressive not only in its promotions but should also frequently meet the public to raise awareness, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow said the board should also allocate more grants to non-governmental organisations (NGO) for activities which would help the government educate the community on infectious and non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
“So far, grants of RM30 million have been allocated for this purpose and this year RM2.5 million was approved for 67 NGOs and registered assocations,” he told reporters after launching the National Strategic Plan Advocacy for Non-Communicable Diseases, here yesterday.
He said the number of patients affected by NCD was increasing, with an estimated 70 per cent receiving treatment at government clinics while 20 per cent were warded. — Bernama
