Missing man believed attacked by crocodile

LAHAD DATU: A 26-year-old man who went shrimp trawling with his friend at a river near their home, is believed to have been a victim of a crocodile attack at Km 180 Kampung Hamparan Badai Felda Sahabat on Friday.

The river in which the victim went missing while trawling for shrimps.

According to district police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat, the victim, identified as Husman Bin Sakil, suddenly disappeared while catching shrimps with his friend about 6.00pm.

“After our department received information on the incident, we rushed to the scene together with the Fire and Rescue Department for a search and rescue operation,” he said, adding that the operation also involved the Wildlife Department and villagers.

“We understand from villagers in the area there is a big crocodile in the river,” he said when contacted yesterday.

According to the victim’s friend Akbar Amir, in his 20s, they went to the scene around 5.00pm to catch shrimps. About an hour later, while they were pulling their net, he heard Husman screaming suddenly before disappearing.

He tried to search for his friend but failed and ran immediately to a nearby village for help.
