KUALA TERENGGANU: Federal and state civil servants in Terengganu are required to observe a 40-day mourning period following the demise of Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s mother, Tengku Ampuan Bariah al-Marhum Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah al-Haj on Monday.

The state flag at government offices, statutory bodies, private companies and houses should be flown at half-mast until April 29, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.

He said Muslim male civil servants were required to wear a songkok with straps of a one-inch width white cloth while Muslim women needed to wear a white selendang (shawl) or scarf.

Non-Malay male civil servants are required to wear a black tie or armband on the right sleeve while non-Muslim women should also wear a black armband, he told a news conference here yesterday.

He said the attire of the armed forces and police personnel would be determined by their dress code while the public could wear a songkok strapped with a white cloth (for Muslim men) and a black armband (non-Muslim men and women). — Bernama
