KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday congratulated students who achieved good results in the 2010 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, particularly the 9,239 who obtained grade A in all subjects.“As the education minister I am very proud of your achievement. I’m confident that your family members, the teachers and the society are also proud of your achievement.

“Congratulations to the parents for their children’s achievement. It goes without saying that

family plays an important role in spurring them to do well in their studies,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Teachers also played a part in helping the students excel in the examination, he said.

He said the government’s initiatives under the Education National Key Result Areas (NKRA), especially in the provision of incentives for headmasters, principals and teachers, had contributed to the better performance among teachers and students.

Muhyiddin said the School Improvement Programme had also been a catalyst in enhancing the performance of schools and help students excel in the examination.

“I also want to thank the teachers for their sacrifice and guidance. Without them, the excellent achievement will not be realised,” he said, adding that he was satisfied with the overall increase in the achievement in last year’s examination.

For those who achieved less encouraging results, Muhyiddin said, they should continue to work hard and not be disheartened.

“I believe that if they work hard and are given guidance, InsyaAllah they can be successful,” he said. — Bernama
