Channel will be available at 168 hospitals, agencies nationwide
PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday launched a television channel to enable the ministry disseminate information on health at hospitals and its agencies.
‘MedikTV’, which was launched at Putrajaya Hospital yesterday, would be made available at 168 government hospitals and agencies nationwide to channel official news from the ministry, he said.
He said the programmes would enhance the people’s knowledge and understanding of matters pertaining to health.
“This electronic media will broadcast various health programmes, awareness campaigns and the ministry’s promotions on current issues,” he said at the launch.
Liow said MedikTV was a collaboration between the ministry and Medic Channel (M) Sdn Bhd, with the company handling the cost of installation and maintenance of the TV channel.
Medic Channel Chairman Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail said the service would be available initially at 53 major hospitals in the states in May while 115 hospital and government agencies would be served from July.
“Based on the ministry’s demographic report, the target audience will exceed 24.9 million in a year, encompassing patients and visitors,” he said.
Dr Rahman said the channel would be available for 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm, in the public viewing area, and round-the-clock in specific areas such as the emergency unit and maternity ward.
He also said that MedikTV would also broadcast domestic and foreign news, currency exchange rates, weather report and music videos. — Bernama
