KUCHING: The Barisan Nasional (BN) in Sarawak is ready to play ‘rough’ in the coming state election if the opposition was to apply such tactics, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.“If people decide it should be smooth, it will be smooth and very gentlemanly.

“But if people decide it will be rough…well…this is very traditional Sarawak, we know how to treat people in the manner they want us to respond,” warned Jabu

after chairing a PBB management meeting at PBB headquarters at Jalan Bako here yesterday.

He added that the bigger majority wins by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the last five by-elections was a good ‘feng-shui’ for the state BN to face the opposition.

The deputy chief minister added that the BN’s recent wins in Galas, Batu Sapi, Tenang, Kerdau and Merlimau and coupled with the resignation of key PKR leaders have given the BN an extra boost.

“But we have to work hard to win in the coming election,” he reiterated.

On another issue, Jabu said the state BN would decide on the content of the manifesto for the coming election soon.

He added that a committee was now working on the manifesto and that it would include key issues such as the politics of development focusing on the second wave of development especially on SCORE. Also incorporated into the manifesto would be the country’s motto of ‘People First, Performance Now’.

Jabu also stressed that PBB was now in top gear and raring to go for the election.

“Our machinery is in tip top condition and we are ready,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Jabu who is also Layar assemblyman said he would welcome anyone who wanted to face him in his stronghold since 1974.

Former PRS information chief Tedwin Ngumbang had indicated that he was ready to face Jabu. The closed door meeting was attended by PBB’s top echelon leaders.
