‘Repealing outdated rules will ensure nation’s competitiveness’

PUTRAJAYA: All outdated and irrelevant regulations should be repealed to ensure the nation is competitive and able to reach the rank of Top 10 most competitive nations in the world, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said.

All secretaries-general of ministries and department heads should relook into the regulations for the purpose of repealing or improving them, he said.

“The secretaries-general and department heads should ensure that the improvement to these outdated regulations are successfully implemented,” he told reporters after giving out prizes to winners of Pemudah Challenge, here yesterday.

On the event, he said, 67 practical ideas from 1,105 entries on improvements to outdated regulations were generated during the challenge’s first season from Nov 26 to Dec 31 last year.

The highest participation was from International Trade and Industry Ministry at 154 followed by the Prime Minister’s Department (150) and Education Ministry (128).

“Up until now, 21 of the ideas have been implemented. For the second season, we will open the participation to the public and no longer limit it to civil servants,” he said. — Bernamaing outdated rules will ensure nation’s competitiveness’
