Landlord stabs two of his tenants in a crime of passion

MIRI: A man stabbed two of his tenants at a house in the city centre early yesterday morning in a crime of passion.

Sources revealed that the landlord was said to be in love with one of his tenants, but she did not feel the same towards him as she already has a boyfriend.

Feeling rejected and angry after learning that she was in love with someone else, the landlord lost control and became violent. Preliminary investigation said the girl was probably stabbed several times on the right chest.

A male tenant, who witnessed the attack was also assaulted and stabbed.

Both victims were rushed to Miri Hospital, where the girl was admitted into the emergency room but later died around 11.40am, while the other victim was treated for minor injury.

It was said that the landlord had attempted suicide by slashing his neck with a knife after the incident.

Police rushed to the house upon receiving a call from Miri Hospital about the attack and arrested the landlord. A knife was also seized from the scene.

Miri police chief ACP Jamaluddin Ibrahim, when contacted, confirmed the case and said investigation is in progress.

According to a source, the girl worked as a shop assistant for a departmental store in the city centre and had rented a room in the suspect’s house since three months ago.

The source added that the landlord occupied one of the 17 rooms in the house. Fifteen had been rented out. His family members are living and working in Brunei.

It was not known if the man was under the influence of drug or alcohol when the attack took place.
