Miri going for at least 10 gold medals at junior meet

MIRI: Miri is targeting at least 10 gold medals in the 8th Sarawak Junior Championship in Kuching on April 2-3.

The Division will be sending a 22-member team, consisting of 13 boys and nine girls, to the two-day meet, according to Miri Division Amateur Athletic Association (MDAAA) secretary Johnny Ling.

The team, to be led by Mawan Lalen and Wan Manshor Tuanku Lom, will leave for Kuching tomorrow and return on Monday.

“In the last meet, the Miri team, comprising 31 athletes, collected 20 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals.”

“We also expect to do well this time around, especially with our best hope and Sukma athlete Ambrose Jilom, in the team.

We are aiming for at least 10 gold medals,” Ling said yesterday.

Meanwhile, at the association’s annual general meeting on Sunday, the following were elected as the officebearers: Datuk Aidan Wing (president), Dato Dr Fong Onn Min (vice president I), Antonio Kahti Galis (vice president II), Johnny Ling (secretary) Ennie Lukong (assistant secretary) and Lim Gueh Eng (treasurer).

The committee members are Peter Fam, Albert Ong, Richard Lui, Harifen Mansur, Abang Sapani Abang Sarbini, Wan Manshor Tuanku Lom, Marcus Hugo Matu Lejau and Richard Wong.

The co-opted members are Mawan Lalen, Martin Kijan, Yee Khey Fhey and Chan Siang Cheng.

The hon auditor for 2011-2 is Sidney Lau Ka Tee.
