KUCHING: Six hundred and fifty nomination forms for the 10th Sarawak state election have been sold as of noon today since March 25.

An official from the Sarawak Election Commission (EC) said the forms which were purchased by the aspiring candidates or their representatives were for all the 71 state constituencies in the election on April 16.

“A set of the forms is being sold at RM20 each. I expect the sale of the forms to pick up one day before the nomination day on April 6,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak EC Director Datu Takun Sunggah, when contacted, said the problem of shortage in several areas occurred because only a small number of the forms were sent out in the earlier delivery.

“Initially, the RO (Returning Officers) were in a hurry. We gave out only five sets of the forms (for each state constituency). There is no problem of a shortage of forms…there are enough forms,” he said.

He said the EC had been prepared, including providing sufficient forms to cater for the possibility of a large number of candidates standing for the election.

“If a constituency does not have enough forms, we will send more immediately,” he said. – Bernama
