KUCHING: Pantai Damai is a constituency which lives up to its name, and as the name suggests, is all ‘calm and cool’, said its incumbent Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi yesterday.

According to Dr Rahman in a statement made to The Borneo Post yesterday, the labelling of Pantai Damai as a ‘hot seat’ by Election Commission (EC) should not be perceived wrongly by voters.

“This is shown when Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had a walkabout in the area yesterday (Wednesday). People were cheerful and happy upon seeing him. People are very supportive of Barisan Nasional (BN) government as the BN has rendered much assistance and brought in physical development to Pantai Damai,” said Dr Rahman.

He continued by stating that PBB branch of Pantai Damai had started their groundwork since February 2010, and there should not be any issue to be capitalised on by the opposition.

“What they (opposition) said so far are recycled stuffs. I can say it’s quite tough for the opposition to start their momentum here unless they use dirty and ugly tactics which they had done in the past.”

Describing the younger generation’s support towards BN as a solid foundation proven by their participation in various activities and programmes in the area, Dr Rahman added that the people have now matured and will not be easily coaxed with sweet promises and lies anymore.

“Our people want a stable and strong government as well as sincere and people-friendly leaders. These criteria can only be found in BN leadership,” he pressed.

EC deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Wan Omar on Monday had announced the nine hot seats where each will receive additional enforcement teams. The seats are Pantai Damai, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawa, Kedup, Repok, Dudong, Pelawan, Nangka and Balingian.
