KUCHING: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) has finally decided on its candidateto defend Ba Kelalan for the Barisan Nasional (BN).
Its president Dato Sri William Mawan said the new face to replace incumbent Nelson Balang Rining is lawyer Willie Liau who is a local and SPDP Ba Kelalan Youth leader.
His nomination is in line with the Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s wish to see more young leaders in the state BN.
Mawan said Willie is in his late 30s and he hoped all BN members would close rank and give the young lawyer the support he needed to face Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state liaison chief Baru Bian.
He said he was supposed to announce the candidate today but then it would only come out in the newspapers tomorrow, which is nomination day.
Therefore he decided to announce it last night after he came back from a short trip to Lawas yesterday afternoon.
