Dominique to quit politics if he finishes last

KUCHING: Independent candidate Dominique Ng Kim Ho is confident that he will not finish last in the three-cornered fight for the Padungan seat the April 16 Sarawak state election.

Ng, who is the incumbent, said he would quit politics for good should he do so.

He said the voters of Padungan had the final say in the matter.

“I will happily retire from politics if I finish last,” he told Bernama here today.

The seasoned politician is pitted against freshies Sim Kiang Chiok of the Barisan Nasional and DAP’s Wong King Wei.

Ng said he was determined to carry on his struggle to defend the seat, which he won in the 2006 state election.

He was the only PKR candidate to win a seat in that election and managed to defeat Lily Yong Lee Lee of the BN by a majority of 1,417 votes.

PKR had contested in 25 seats then.

However, this time around, PKR swapped the seat with DAP two days before the nomination (April 6), taking Batu Lintang and giving Padungan to DAP.

Ng’s name was dropped from PKR’s candidates list.

Following the development, he quit the party and opted to stand as an Independent.

“I will see it through. If want to withdraw, it should be DAP, not me. For the record, they have never won the Padungan seat.

“Because of this betrayal, I have to come up with new election materials. I will have a new billboard and other election materials very soon,” said Ng, adding that he had spent RM14,000 earlier for posters and billboards. – Bernama
