S’wak born Astro Arena sports’ celebrities meet fans


KUCHING: Sarawak born star athletes — Mohd Azlan Iskandar, Bryan Nickson Lomas, Daniel Bego and Pandelela Rinong, who are the Astro Arena ambassadors met their fans at the Riverside shopping complex here yesterday.

Meet-the-fan session that started from 2.30pm until 5pm, attracted the shoppers and fans who took the chance to have their photo taken with their sports idols.

It is part of the Astro Arena’s ambassadors roadshow to celebrate its first anniversary in Kuching as well as gestures of thanks to viewers here.

Azlan is world No. 10 squash player, Bryan and Pandelela of diving and Daniel, swimming.

Talking to reporters at a press conference after the event, the star athletes were clearly in high spirits when responding to their questions.

Unfortunately, Bryan was unable to stay until the end of the event as he has to rush to Sabah for another function.

When asked, Azlan, Daniel and Pandelela shared their experiences and feeling as Astro Arena ambassadors.

“We are grateful to be ambassadors of Astro Arena because we can meet our fan throughout the roadshow.

“This sport channel is definitely your number one choice for it excellent coverage of local sports. As a locally born sportsman, I truly appreciate their support and its role to cultivate greater interest for local sports talents,” Azlan told during the interview.

Also present was Rashid Salleh the key presenters of sports channel.

He said that the channel provide more information on local sports personalities which aimed to inspire more young children to get seriously involved in sports of their choice.

Meanwhile, Astro Arena channel manager Venu Ramadass said that the one month long anniversary celebration would culminate with the Malaysian Sports Celebration Night.

The channel is available to all Astro customers under the basic package.
