KENINGAU: The claim that the original route of Masak and Ulu Kauran rivers at Kampung Ulu Patikang to have been altered was found to be true when an inspection was conducted by the Liawan Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) chief, Datuk Jake Jikulin Nointin on Sunday.

Nointin who was accompanied by Kapitan Lee Tet Soon saw for themselves how the original route of the river had been closed, believed to have been done by the land owner.

The alteration had caused the water from the river to flow over the road leading to Kampung Ulu Patikang.

He said relevant departments will have to discuss with the land owner relating to reinstating the original route of the river for the benefit of all.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who visited the area last month has said that altering the original course of a river is not permitted without any authorization.

The representative from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sarinus Laim who accompanied Pairin during the visit said that the problem was not due to the drainage system, but the closure of the original route of the river.

Meanwhile, during the flood that had hit several areas in the district on Sunday, the Ulu Patikang road was the worst hit.
