BINTULU: Voters here were told on Wednesday night to help effect the birth of a two-party system in the country.

They were also told that the victory of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) over Barisan Nasional (BN) in this state election would be a big step towards that direction. DAP Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming, who gave this reminder, said the two-party system was not impossible in Malaysia.

In fact, Malaysians are seeing light at the end of the tunnel when PR achieved some victories in the 2006 Sarawak state election and 2008 general election.

“In fact, Malaysians are seeing light at the end of the tunnel when PR achieved some victories in the 2006 Sarawak state election and 2008 general election.

“The results of the two elections render this state election auspicious for PR,” he told his audience at a PR-DAP ceramah.

Nga said poor administration of the country would be better kept in check under the two-party system.

Likening it to the airlines service, he said when Malaysian Airlines System (MAS) had the monopoly of air service in the country, passengers had to fork out a lot from their pockets in order to fly.

With the coming of AirAsia to compete with MAS, everyone could afford to fly now, he explained.

Telling supporters of DAP’s cause never to give up, he said the party had gone through much pain and experienced numerous defeats over the last 30 years.

“But for the nation, for the people, for true democracy and for justice and fairness, we never gave up.

“Democracy won’t drop from the sky. We’ve to earn it,” he said, advising the people to be assertive in getting what they want.
