BATU KAWAN: Experienced rider Ahmad Fazli Sham won the CP130 category of AAM Malaysia Petronas Cub Prix Championship at Batu Kawan Stadium here yesterday.
It is his first title this year since switching from Shell Advance Yamaha Maju Motor to Pennzoil Fastrac Racing Team. Fazli completed the 15 rounds in a time of 14:03.519s, 8.767s faster than second placed Abdul Muhaimin Roslan of Yamaha Maju Motor Racing.
Muhaimin recorded 14:12.286s followed by teammate Ahmad Fuad Baharudin who came in third in 14:13.400s.
Despite finishing third behind Mohd Affendi Rosli of Harian Metro TEQ SCK Honda Racing, Muhaimin was awarded second place after Affendi was penalised.
Affendi who was penalised 30 seconds was demoted to eighth for making a jump-start at the start of the race.
Fazli, 29, is surprised by the win as his times during free practice and time trial yesterday were unstatisfactory.
“I only expected to make the podium as Mohd Zamri Baba was leading since the first day including the SuperPole session this morning.
“After SuperPole, my mechanic said adjustment to the carburettor will make it faster at the straight,” he added.
Fazli is the overall leader (33 points) followed by Muhaimin a close second ( 31 points) while Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi of Pachie Yuzie Honda Racing was third (26 points).
Yamaha Maju Motor Racing is leading the team event with 47 points followed by Pachie Yuzi Honda Racing (46 points) and Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha AHM (45 points). — Bernama
