MIRI: Following the good showing by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the just-concluded 10th state election, PAS feels very much motivated and is now focusing on the coming general election.

Miri PAS information chief Mohd Azwani Abdul Rani said he was confident that PR would capture Miri and even Sibuti seats.

“The parliamentary seats will see the toughest fight for Barisan Nasional, especially in Sibuti if PAS is given the opportunity to represent the opposition front there,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

With the wind of change blowing strongly in Miri, Mohd Azwani believed the ‘Miri Go Green’ slogan by Miri MP Datuk Seri Peter Chin would soon be realised as ‘Miri Go Green with PAS’.

“Green is a colour synonymous with PAS,” he said. On the recent election, Mohd Azwani said DAP’s victories in Piasau and Pujut seats, plus PKR’s almost-won Senadin seat showed the people’s true support for the opposition front.

He pointed out to the swing in people’s support in Miri through the effort of more than 1,200 PAS supporters who assisted in ground works at Bumiputera settlements like Pujut Adong, Luak, Kampung Api-Api, Tudan, Kampung Muhibbah in Kuala Baram and the famous Kampung Pasir in Lutong that had been declared as Kampung PAS.

“A massive change in Chinese voting trend in the urban areas due to the anti-Taib and anti-Dr George Chan sentiment translated into thumping wins by DAP in these two seats,” Mohd Azwani said.

In light of this, he is confident that Miri and Sibuti parliamentary seats would be captured by PR.
